Have you ever wanted to experience the freedom of soaring above the trees of a forest, or virtually fly across a gorge? If you have (and even if you haven’t) you might want to try zip lining. Zip lining is a form of aerial transport that relies on ropes, pulleys and gravity to carry people quickly across terrain that does not naturally lend itself to speed, such as dense forests and mountains filled with ravines and gorges. Depending on whom you talk to, zip lines originated in either Costa Rica or Hawaii as a practical way to get around. These days, they’ve been adopted by eco- and adventure-tour operators to give holiday makers a thrilling alternative to walking tours and hikes.

South Africa has mountains and forests dotted across its length and breadth, and over the past few years these have been put to good use as internationally acclaimed zip lining destinations.

Tsitsikamma, along the Garden Route (already a favourite of South Africa’s activities), boasts not one but two zip lining opportunities.

The official Tsitsikamma Canopy Tour was the country’s first “eco-wilderness adventure”. You get a two – three hour 30m high aerial tour of the Tsitsikamma rainforest with a guide whose knowledge of the local fauna and flora will astound you.

Then there is the Tsitsikamma Falls Adventure Park where you can indulge your love of heights (or conquer your fears) with a zip line tour across the Kruis River Gorge.

Head towards the Western Cape and find your way to Ceres (famous for its wines and fruit juices). Here, you’ll not only find ample opportunity to quench your thirst but you’ll also find Ceres Zipslide Adventures, which, according to the website, boasts the longest zip line tour in Africa. This is perhaps largely due to its extensions which were planned for 2011.

Ceres’ claim to the longest zip line in Africa title is contested by UNREAL, or the ZIP slide 2000, which you’ll find way up north in Sun City. While the title of the longest zip line may be up for grabs, UNREAL is certain that its slide is the fastest.

Turn east into Mpumalanga and the Sabie River and you’ll find Skyway Trails. Skyway Trails is just outside of Hazyview, which in turn is close to the Kruger National Park, so you can fit in all manner of holiday treats. The tour takes you above the Sabie River and along the valley. It used to be the longest zip line in Africa, until UNREAL and Ceres came along.

KwaZulu Natal’s Midlands Meander also provides some zip lining action. Karkloof Canopy Tours take you on a whirlwind adventure above the Karkloof forest, valley and waterfall. Expect to see some Samago monkeys and be amazed at the varied birdlife.

This list is by no means exhaustive. Contact your travel agent or find an online travel portal for more information on zip line activities in South Africa.

Sandy writes for a number of different sites, including blogs on South Africa’s many activities and other African adventures.

For the first time in nearly twenty years, Britain is going to be one of the most popular tourist destinations for Britons this year. Many of us are still feeling the recession and the idea of splashing out on a beach holiday in the Mediterranean or further afield is a little much. Never forget that Britain is an island with more than 11,000 miles of coastline – and some corking beaches. Besides, a holiday at home offers the added benefit of a much-needed boost to our own economy. So pack your bags and jump in your car – if you don’t have one you can always get a hire car but remember to take out hire car excess insurance – and let’s hit the beach!

Best All Round: Blackpool Pleasure Beach, Lancashire

The Mecca of British seaside resorts, you absolutely have to go before you die. The whole area is now considered one big amusement park, with125 rides and shows, a family theme park, rollercoasters, amusement arcades, stripy deckchairs, and miles of award-winning beaches. To access the park and use the rides you’ll need a wristband with a unique barcode for each day – you can choose the unlimited pass, the plain old pleasure beach pass or the platinum pass, which lasts all season.

Best for Families: Weston-super-Mare, Somerset

If you’ve seen classic postcards of the British beach holiday, you’ve seen the best of Weston-super-Mare. It’s the quintessential British beach resort, with golden sand, a historic pier, mini-railway, marine park, arcades and a Victorian-style promenade that hosts dozens of events throughout the year. You can also go on a donkey ride, an age-old British tradition that the kids will love.

Best for Walking: Holywell Bay, Cornwall

Not far from the ever-popular Newquay you’ll find Holywell Bay, well known for its excellent walks and prime surfing. At low tide the beach extends for more than 150m out to the breakers, and you’ll even be able to see an old shipwreck that’s been there for more than 70 years. You can also access Holywell Cave, where you’ll find rock pools and mineral structures – just watch out for the crabs!

Best for Swimming: West Wittering, Sussex

West Wittering has been a favourite destination for a family day out for generations. With exceptionally clean and clear waters, the beach boasts excellent facilities including a wind- and kite-surfing club. It has received the premier Blue Flag award for the quality of its water, for its golden sand and manicured park areas, and the area is well-known for its wildlife, birds and unique beauty.

Best for Culture St. Ives, Cornwall

If Blackpool isn’t quite your cup of tea, look no further. Named Best Seaside Town in 2007, it’s easy to see why St. Ives is so popular. It’s extremely picturesque, the views are beautiful, the sea is a wonderful turquoise in summer, and there’s plenty of culture to satisfy the more sophisticated traveller – there’s the Tate St. Ives and the Barbara Hepworth museum and sculpture gallery to name just two of the highlights.

Southport has spent many years in Blackpool’s shadow, but following a marketing campaign it has re-branded itself as “England’s Classic Resort” and become known as more upmarket coastal destination.

Whatever you’re wanting from your seaside break, Southport has it all. Southport Beach is located just a short walk away from the town centre and has a Pier with Victorian arcade machines, and the town is about a 20 minute drive away from Formby with its pine woods and sand dunes,

Southport is also well known for its golf. The Royal Birkdale has hosted the Open on a number of occasions and there are also courses in town centre.

If you love to shop, the resort has plenty of shops, from high street names to smaller boutique shops, with a number of them located on the charming Lord Street. Lord Street is said to have been the inspiration for the boulevards of Paris after a visit to the town by Napoleon.

In the evening, there are plenty of restaurants to visit and a number of bars and pubs where you can enjoy a drink to round off your day in sunny Southport.

When exactly was the last time you went on holiday? Yeah, got you thinking now haven’t I? Well if it was a fairly long time ago then why don’t you look into going away sometime this year? Instead of booking last minute holidays for you and your family why not plan a trip away now and then you can rest easy knowing that you have a trip booked and paid for and then you’ll just need to worry about booking off the days from work. Anyhow, here are our Top 3 holiday destinations:

1. Turkey

Turkey is becoming ever more popular as a holidaying destination amongst Brits and other people from around the world. Located in the South – Eastern parts of Europe it undoubtedly gets a lot of sunshine for the majority of the year and is full of British holiday makers as the destination has become ever more popular in recent years. Cheap holidays to Turkey are a good money saver if you do fancy Turkey with your family.

2. Egypt

Egypt, the North African country is a very popular destination with many European tourists, especially seeing as the Pyramids are there and there is also the likes of the sphinx there. Obviously there’s the city of Cairo, Egypt’s capital and possibly one of the busiest cities in the North of Africa. If you’d quite like to experience the hustle and bustle of a big city, then Cairo is definitely one of the places you should look at visiting with all the culture that is encapsulated within the city. If you would like to take a bit of a different approach to Egypt then why not look into some cheap cruise holidays around the Egyptian coast, because cheap holidays to Egypt aren’t hard to come by then you have the choice of whether you would like to go for a cruise or on a proper holiday.

3. Spain

Spain is a very popular European holidaying destination. With plenty of places around Europe owned by Spain, like the Canary Islands; Tenerife, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura and finally the big one, the one that every young person knows about the island of Ibiza. Known for its massive night clubs and its general party atmosphere, the island of Ibiza gets thousands upon thousands of visitors from all around Europe every year, mainly in the summer, but they definitely do get one of the largest amounts of young people visiting the island every year. There are plenty of cheap holidays to Spain available to young people, and of course you old timers out there who fancy maybe a long weekend away or a week or two in the sun.

With any one of these destinations you are sure to have one of the best holidays you will ever have as they are all equally good destinations and obviously there are different things to do in each one of the cities depending on what you want to do. One thing to be sure about is you’ll enjoy yourself!

Statistics released by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) have highlighted a reduction in the number of people travelling to and from the UK in the first 9 months of 2010.

Taken from a random selection of travellers entering and leaving the UK by sea, air and via the Channel Tunnel, figures provided to the ONS from the International Passenger Survey show an overall drop in both passenger numbers and the amount spent.

In September, 2.48 million visits to the UK were made compared with nearly 2.56 million in September 2009, the Office for National Statistics said.

Spending has also seen an impact with foreign tourists spending around £1.43bn in the UK this September. That’s around 12% down on the September 2009 figures.

Meanwhile, statistics show that the number of trips abroad by UK residents has also decreased, with more people than ever choosing to holiday at home. Figures show that in the first nine months of 2010, UK residents made 43.6 million trips abroad – 7% fewer than in the same period last year.

In addition to the reduction of trips made abroad, figures suggest that spending by UK travellers abroad had also fallen to around £24.94 billion, a 3% dip on the same nine-month period in 2009.

With the Christmas season fast approaching, travel agents, airlines, ferry operators and retailers are hoping to see a last minute surge in travel and retail, providing a welcome boost to revenues and making some gains on the depressed figures for the year to date.

In search of Global Travel Medical Insurance? Many sites give you the ability to find the best health insurance quotes online.

These days it’s a bad idea to be without health care coverage. You can get sick out of the blue and you never know when injuries can occur. Expenses can add up pretty quick and getting health insurance isn’t cheap by any means.

The lack of health insurance can wipe out your financial stability in the event of unexpected injuries or accidents. Medical care is expensive and that’s why it’s so important for many people to find inexpensive health insurance.

There are plenty of firms who give health insurance. To ensure a proper insurance policy match-making process, several different insurance packages are available.

It can take a lot of work to find the correct insurance policy. It’s crucial to find the top insurance coverage you can for a price that you can easily pay without major worries. It is thus a good idea to get insurance quotes online to find the best options available.

You will have to give basic information in a questionnaire so you can get your Global Travel Medical Insurance. You will be able to review the different quotes from different providers and you will be able to see which companies provide you with the best deal. You can then choose the insurance policies that meet your needs and that you can pay comfortably.

Save yourself time and frustration by using free online health quote services. To get a quote from each insurance provider separately would take many hours to accomplish. Luckily for you and me, free website services exist so you can acquire rates from the insurance firms very fast.

A new austerity drive is sweeping across Europe, as governments struggle to trim huge budget deficits and the 16-nation eurozone races to reassure sceptical markets.

So far the biggest protests have been seen in Greece, but major strikes are making headlines elsewhere too.

This is the latest news as to the measures that the new government is taking.

The new UK coalition government has announced £6.2bn (7.2bn euros) of savings in 2010-2011, making it clear that this is just the first step in an austerity drive aimed at cutting the huge deficit of £156bn, which is above 11% of GDP.

The biggest of all the departmental cuts will be at the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills, totalling £836m.

David Cameron’s government hopes to make big savings by delaying or stopping government contracts and projects, by cutting consultancy and travel costs and by slimming down public sector agencies known as quangos.

The Irish government has presented three austerity packages in just over a year.

In December the budget for 2010 slashed government spending by 4bn euros, cut all public servants’ pay by at least 5% and reduced social welfare.

The measures include cuts of 760m euros in social welfare and 960m euros in investment projects.

Child benefit is being cut by 16 euros per month, bringing the lower rate to 150 euros per month and the higher rate to 187 euros per month.

A carbon tax has been brought in, set at 15 euros per tonne of CO2.

The Irish deficit currently stands at 12% of GDP. The government aims to cut it in stages, to reach 2.9% in 2014.

Global Travel International is one of several Internet marketing programs in the market today that is geared towards the integration of online booking and the brick and mortar business of a travel agency. It has a pretty solid reputation, and the fact that it has been around for the past 15 years is a testament to that. However, the real question is what it means for you? This article was created with the intention of helping you find out just that.

For a start, it is best to clearly understand this system’s working principle. In a nutshell, you are basically a hired individual that is expected to do the service of lead generation, and this is how you get paid. For a period of 14 days, it offers you the opportunity to try it out if it works for you with no risk on your part. The cost for the trial offer though is considered non refundable.

The cost in membership fees includes a yearly membership fee amounting from the $200 online offer to $698 which would grant you access to extra training modules and free vacations or cruises. Expect to also pay a one time activation fee. The system has three subscription levels consisting of Silver, Gold and Platinum. They all have a yearly membership renewal fee of $199. You subscription level has no bearing on the amount of commissions earned. It all depends on how much sales you manage to secure.

You will receive your own website once you sign up for the program which you can use to direct customers who are looking for good deals and booking travel tickets. Every ticket that a customer books grants you a corresponding commission which can tracked via a reference number through the aid of the system’s web page or by the GTI Travel Reservation Center.

One of the great things about Global Travel International is the fact that it has a huge network. Currently, they have 40,000 agents located in 80 countries around the globe. As a member, you may also benefit from discounts on your travel, accommodations and automobile rental expenses. There are certainly a lot of people who chose to become members in order to benefit from these discounts and are not a bit concerned about making any sales. This is especially true for those who travel a lot allowing them to save thousands of dollars a year on their expenses. It is also an advantage when you consider the fact that you are not actually doing any efforts at selling. Thus there is no need to exert any effort on trainings. Referring people to your site is all there is to it.

Having said all the great things about Global Travel International, I’ve also found a couple of challenges regarding its use. For one thing, the business operates in a polarized market. The first instinct of many people when planning and booking their travels is to access sources such as Expedia or Priceline which is the mainstream source for travel needs. Introducing your website to a large number of customers isn’t going to be a walk in the park. It’s also not easy to avail your self of those airline agent discounts which requires you to make $100,000 worth of sales.

The Bottom Line

Having explored the facts regarding this particular home-based business opportunity, I would say that the best way to take advantage of it is to benefit from the travel discounts that the system offers you as a valued member. This would be ideal for someone who travels a lot as part of their business needs. Expect the fact though that your Travel agent card may not be valid on certain establishments, so check on this first to see if you can make the best out of it.

With regards to actually making sales, it isn’t a very easy picture to paint given the fact that your income potential translates to $25 for a $500 ticket. The challenge of introducing your website also complicates the situation. It may help if you focus on group bookings and cruises instead. So unless you are up to these challenges, I would suggest sticking to the travel discounts if you have those travel needs. What do you think? Feel free to post your own review below.

Traveling overseas can offer you thrill and adventure or it can provide you with lucrative business opportunities. Regardless of why you are traveling you are sure to experience new sights and sounds. The last thing you need is to worry about what should happen if you become ill or have an accident. You also do not want your trip to be spoiled by lost luggage or unforeseen circumstances that can delay or cancel your trip. You can easily take the uncertainty out of your trip by purchasing global travel insurance.

You only need a small mishap to cause large financial consequences. World wide travel insurance can eliminate this possibility. If you have already decided to purchase global travel insurance then it is good for you. All that’s left is to do is determine which policy is right for you.

The first thing you need to think about is whether or not you need travel insurance that will cover just one trip or if it makes more sense to buy a policy that will cover all the trips you will be taking for an entire year. You will also need to consider how comprehensive you want your policy to be. Do you just need medical coverage or would you feel more comfortable with an all inclusive global travel insurance policy? The specific price you pay will depend on how many features your policy includes.

No matter what type of policy you think will best insure you the way you need it, you should make sure that when you are comparing your options you take a very close look at medical coverage. This is the most important aspect of global travel insurance since it is very likely that your personal medical policy will not cover overseas travel. When you consider how costly it can be to be evacuated should you fall ill while traveling, you can understand why this is so important. Depending on which overseas location you are visiting, a medical evacuation can cost tens of thousands of dollars.

When you are ready to start shopping for your global travel insurance policy a very good place to start is the Internet. With just a quick Internet search you’ll find a wide variety of companies offering a full range of global travel insurance. From comprehensive worldwide coverage to travel medical insurance only, you will be able to find both individual company sites and industry portals that can provide you with quotes for multiple companies.

To be on the safe side it is a good idea to do some research on the company that is offering the policy. It doesn’t do you much good to have a global travel insurance policy if the company that is underwriting doesn’t stand by its claims. Using the web you should be able to find customer reviews as well as other information that can help you determine how financially sound the companies you are considering are.

So go ahead and take that vacation or go on that business trip. When you have a good global travel insurance policy you can travel without worry.
